MILO – Freshman Erin Beasley scored off Erika Merrill’s throw-in with 9:01 to play in the second overtime period Friday, propelling Penquis of Milo to a 2-1 victory over Calais in Class C soccer regional crossover semifinal action.

Shannon Gerrish tied the game at 1-1 for 10-5-1 Penquis when she scored with 3:22 left in the first half. Ashley Pelletier made seven saves on 10 shots.

Morgan Drew tallied off a Lanna Martin feed with 28:05 to play in the first half for 9-5-1 Calais. Katie Welch made 11 saves on 23 shots.

Field hockey

Class C

Piscataquis 2, Central 1

At Guilford, the No. 2-ranked Pirates earned the right to play in the Eastern Maine Class C championship after Kristi Levesque’s game-winning goal with six minutes left in the game.

Levesque’s goal came on a rebound of her own shot in front of the goal.

Central’s Casey Davis gave the Red Riots the early first-half lead with her goal, but Karole-Anne Emery tied things up at one apiece for Piscataquis with her goal on a penalty shot, also in the first half.

Caterina Riitano stopped four of the five shots for 12-2-1 PCHS. Cindy Dehm made two saves on seven shots 9-5-2 Central of Corinth.

Dexter 3, Stearns 1

At Dexter, the Tigers remained undefeated while advancing to the Eastern Maine Class C championship thanks to two goals from Melissa Doody that proved to be the difference.

Doody scored two goals in the first half for the Tigers. Her first, at 17:38, was assisted by Kristy Veazie. Doody’s second goal at 6:24 was assisted by Megan Fogarty.

Erika Haiko added the final goal of the game for 15-0 Dexter after receiving a Karen Nelson assist. Cindy Koscielny had two saves on four shots for the Tigers, who are 34-0-1 since losing to Hall-Dale in the 1999 Eastern Maine semifinals.

Stearns got on the board with 15:39 remaining in the second half when Jessica Osborne scored on a penalty corner.

Becca Saucier blocked 15 of 22 shots for 7-7-2 Stearns of Millinocket.

Class B

Old Town 3, Hermon 2

At Old Town, Kasey Spencer broke up a tie game with seven minutes remaining to send the Indians to the victory and an Eastern Maine Class B championship berth.

Spencer’s goal came on an assist from Brandi Doane. Spencer also scored the first goal of the game on a rebound in front of the cage with 13 minutes left in the first half.

Spencer assisted on Kendall Tracewski’s goal with 27:30 remaining.

Valeria Charloux and Noelle O’Clair each scored for the Hawks. Charloux’s goal came with 24:07 remaining in the first half. O’Clair scored with 12:52 left in the contest to tie the game at 2-2.

Emelie Richards stopped even of nine shots for 16-0 Old Town. Natalie Bell blocked five of nine shots for 4-11-1 Hermon.

Football

Foxcroft 14, Stearns 12

At Dover-Foxcroft, Josh Sands ran for two touchdowns and the Ponies’ Lincoln Robinson and E.J. Imbert stopped a two-point conversion attempt by Stearns to secure the win.

Sands opened the scoring with a 2-yard run in the first quarter and Danny White kicked the point-after for Foxcroft. The Minutemen’s Matt Leino cut the lead to one with a 3-yard run, but the conversion rush failed.

Sands, who finished with 126 yards on 22 carries, ran 1 yard for his second TD in the third quarter and White provided the PAT again.

The Ponies made a goal-line stop on fourth-and-one with about seven minutes remaining, but the Minutemen scored later when Ryan Sweeney ran in from 4 yards out. Sweeney tried a sweep run for the conversion, but Robinson and Imbert made the tackle. Stearns tried an onside kick, but White recovered and FA ran out the clock.

Ponies quarterback Josh Withee was 2-for-5 for 52 yards, and Derek Morong had eight carries for 57 yards and both receptions. Ryan McNulty was in on 11 tackles and Robinson nine.

Stearns quarterback Derek DiFrederico was 3-for-6 for 45 yards.

Bucksport 59, Orono 0

At Orono, the Golden Bucks, the highest-scoring team in LTC Class C, erupted for 28 first-quarter points en route to the triumph.

Chris Woodman’s 53-yard scamper, Chris McHale’s 25-yard pass to Josh Ames, Rustin Ames’ 8-yard run and Dow Cain’s 45-yard interception return provided the first-quarter cushion.

The Bucks, who had scored 244 points in their first seven games, added three more touchdowns in the second quarter on Phil Harvey’s 5-yard run, Gunner Siverly’s 27-yard dash and Drew Pooler’s 4-yard run.

An errant snap on a punt attempt resulted in a third-quarter safety for Bucksport and Marcus Boober closed out the scoring in the final period with a 38-yard run.

Trevor LaLonde was a perfect seven-for-seven on PATs.

Hampden 38, MDI 14

At Mount Desert Island, Brian Groshon amassed 159 yards on 21 carries and scored three touchdowns as Hampden rolled.

Safety Evan Thomas added a pair of touchdowns, including a 50-yard interception return. The Bronco defense forced six turnovers and held the Trojans to 59 rushing yards. Eric King led the way with seven tackles and a fumble recovery for Hampden.

For Mount Desert Island, quarterback Travis Tripp went 10-for-25 for 108 yards and Jon Dow snagged five catches for 46 yards. Andy Wade paced the defense with 10 tackles and a recovered fumble while Greg Fellis logged 10 tackles.

At Rockland, Derek Aramandi racked up 110 yards on five carries for three touchdowns as Jay cruised by Rockland.

Kyle Richard chipped in with a 30-yard touchdown run, Darren Cote registered a 35-yard interception return and Tyrell Waldon lofted a 21-yard touchdown pass to Josh Neal. Shawn Ready kicked four PATs.
