Officials file complaint in dead fetus case

AUGUSTA – The Attorney General’s Office has filed a misdemeanor complaint against a Windsor woman who gave birth to a baby whose decomposed body was found wrapped in a garbage bag in an attic bedroom.

The complaint accuses Ann Sanborn of violating state health statutes by failing to notify authorities of the death of a fetus over 20 weeks of gestation. Discovery of the baby’s remains on Aug. 23 prompted a homicide investigation by Maine State Police. Sanborn is the sister of one of the residents of the Tyler Street house where the baby’s body was found. An autopsy failed to determine whether the baby was born alive but it determined that the baby was beyond 20 weeks of gestation.
