HUDSON – A fire on Halloween night that destroyed a mobile home on the Hudson Hill Road still has the Hudson Fire Department puzzled as to its cause.
The fire began shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday and within minutes spread throughout the home before being extinguished about 7:20 p.m., according to Assistant Fire Chief Bill Grant. The Hudson and Glenburn fire departments responded to the call, while the Bradford Fire Department provided assistance.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known. Grant said the state Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified of the matter and will be conducting an investigation.
The fire began in the midsection of the vacant mobile home. There was no power, water or heat being provided to the building. The mobile home was set back about 100 feet from the road on unlevel ground. One end of the home was on cement blocks, elevated about 5 feet above the ground to keep the structure level. The back end of the trailer was on the ground.
Firefighters worked vigorously inside the trailer checking for hot spots but were forced to be more cautious than usual because the mobile home was moving beneath them. Glenburn and Hudson ambulances were on scene for firefighter assistance.
“These guys did an exceptional job in what they did here,” said Grant. “Unfortunately, the home is a total loss.”
Estimated damage to the mobile home was $5,000, according to Grant. Firefighters didn’t know who owned the unoccupied mobile home.
