With the final teams whittled down after last week’s regional games and meets, squads will compete for high school state championships in soccer, field hockey and cross country today.

Soccer championships will be held at four different locations. All boys games will start at 10 a.m. and all girls games will begin at 1 p.m.

All three field hockey games will be held at Gorham High School. The state cross country races will all be held at the University of Maine-Augusta.

The Class A soccer championships games will be held at Lewiston High School. The boys matchup will feature two undefeated teams in Eastern Maine champ Mount Ararat of Topsham (17-0-1) against Cheverus of Portland (16-0-1). The girls matchup is Mount Ararat (17-1) and Edward Little of Auburn (15-1).

The Class B girls and boys will play at MNBA’s Point Lookout field in Northport. The John Bapst of Bangor boys, now 16-1, will face defending state champ Falmouth, which is 16-1-1. The defending state champion Winslow girls (17-1) will face the Falmouth girls (15-2-1).

Waterville High is the site for the Class C state title games, and both Eastern Maine champs will be looking for state titles after losing in the state final last year. Piscataquis of Guilford (11-3-3) will square off against St. Dominic of Lewiston (16-1) in the boys game, while the George Stevens of Blue Hill girls will take on Traip of Freeport (9-8). The Rangers were the sixth seed in Western Maine Class C.

The Class D boys and girls will play at Bangor High, with the Van Buren boys (15-3) playing the Waynflete of Portland boys (10-4). The Crusaders will try for their first state title since 1996. Meanwhile, the Lee girls (18-0) are looking for their first state crown when the Pandas take on the Richmond girls (13-1).

All three 2000 state field hockey champions are back to defend their titles this year. The Class A game matches up Skowhegan (15-2) and two-time defending champ Sanford (16-0) at 10 a.m. The Class C match between 2000 winner Dexter (17-0) and Hall-Dale (14-1-2) will begin at 12 p.m. The Class B game at 2 p.m. will feature defending champion Winslow (13-5) against Greely of Cumberland Center (11-3-3).

The state cross country championships kick off with the Class C girls at 10 a.m. and the Class C boys at 10:45 a.m. The rest of the schedule is as follows: Class D girls at 11:30 a.m., boys – 12:15 a.m.; Class A girls at 1:00 p.m., boys at 1:45 p.m.; Class B girls at 2:30 p.m., boys at 3:15 p.m.

The girls Eastern Maine team champions Class A Mt. Blue of Farmington, Class B Hampden, Class C Sumner of East Sullivan and Washington Academy of East Machias in Class D.

On the boys side, Eastern Maine team champs Class A Brewer, Class B Ellsworth, Class C Sumner and Class D Machias will contend for the state title.
