Women’s soccer

Maine 1, UNH 0

At Durham N.H., the Black Bears kept their playoff hopes alive thanks to an own goal by the Wildcats midway through the second half.

Maine’s Jen Buckley served a ball over everyone to the box where UNH back Cyndi Poehner headed the ball toward UNH goalkeeper Kristen Ouellette. The ball sailed past Ouellette’s outstretched hands for game’s only goal.

UNH outshot the Black Bears 25-11. Naomi Welsh recorded 10 saves for the 7-6-3 Black Bears. Ouellette blocked one shot for 6-10-3 UNH.

Maine will make the playoffs if Towson, Northeastern and Vermont fail to win their games on Saturday. The Black Bears will not make the tourney if Towson ties in its contest.
