Police to search car in missing-woman case

PORTLAND – Police investigating the disappearance of a South Berwick woman have obtained a warrant to search the car of the man last reported to have seen her.

Amy St. Laurent, 25, has been missing since the early morning of Oct. 21. She reportedly left a Portland nightclub to go to a party and returned to look for her ride.

Police outlined their evidence in an affidavit that has not been made public. But the document contained enough information to obtain a warrant to search the car of the man who reportedly dropped off St. Laurent at about 2 a.m. in front of the Pavilion.

Police would not disclose the man’s name.

Police have interviewed dozens of people, used aircraft, dogs and search teams to scour the woods between where she was last seen in Portland and her home in South Berwick.

“Our hope and prayer is we find her alive,” said Portland Police Chief Michael Chitwood. “In the meantime, we continue forward as though it’s a criminal investigation. From day one, circumstances indicate she just didn’t voluntarily walk away from her life.”
