FORT KENT – Rachel Albert, University of Maine at Fort Kent associate professor of nursing and nursing division chairwoman, who has drawn national media attention for her research in alternative pain management techniques, will present her findings at an academic-community gathering at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the UMFK’s president’s residence.
Albert, who received her doctorate from Case Western University in Cleveland last spring, conducted research for her dissertation on how the use of guided imagery and music affect pain and anxiety during laceration repair.
Her research earned Albert national media attention last December, when her findings were published on the CBS News Healthwatch Web site.
Albert came to UMFK in 1990 as an instructor of nursing. She was named assistant professor of nursing, a full-time tenure track appointment, in 1991. In 1997, the University of Maine System board of trustees granted her tenure and the title of associate professor. In 1999, she was appointed chairwoman of the division of nursing.
