Bangor

The governor of the New England District of Kiwanis, Steve Hill of Norwalk, Conn., will be in Bangor Nov. 9 to address Kiwanis clubs from Divisions 2, 3 and 4 of the district – members from 16 clubs ranging from Moosehead Lake to Augusta, Rockland, Mount Desert and Greater Bangor. The event at Pilots Grill will begin at 6 p.m.

Robert Brydon of Hampden, Paul Reed of Bangor and John White of Guilford were among six employees of the U.S. Postal Service honored Tuesday at a luncheon for “Leaders and Heroes.” District Manager Elizabeth Johnson was host of the celebration.

Fourteen people from 12 countries became naturalized American citizens in a ceremony Nov. 2 at U.S. District Court. Six lawyers were admitted to the bar: Joseph Cassidy, Blue Hill; Karen M. Doore, Winterport; Darin G. Haugen, Bangor, and Michael L. Lane, Old Town, from Eaton, Peabody, Bradford and Veague; Tamar K. Perfit, Bangor, Penquis Law Project; and Kevan Lee Rinehart, Bangor, a clerk with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

The Penquis CAP Youth Ideas and Partnership Project, known as YIPP, will sponsor an informational meeting to discuss a proposed Youth Activities Center at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Bangor Public Library lecture hall. For information, call 973-3617.

The grand reopening celebration for Sam’s Club will be held Nov. 15 to mark the addition of 20,000 square feet. The ribbon-cutting will be held at 9 a.m., with refreshments and entertainment scheduled all day. Magicians, musicians and clowns will take part. Proceeds from a cookout and craft fair will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. Drawings will be held for tickets to a comedy show at Spectacular Events Center, and for gift certificates to Applebee’s, The Chocolate Grille, the Lucerne Inn and Margarita’s.

Components in the new addition include an optical center, pharmacy, one-hour photo center, chicken and ribs rotisserie, and fresh floral area.

The Penobscot Valley Ski Club will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at First United Methodist Church, Essex Street. Skiers and snowboarders are welcome. For information, contact David Clement at 866-0420.

Hermon

Dean Watson has been hired as the town’s full-time recreation director. The town’s recreation committee hired Watson after a lengthy search for a director to create new programs and activities for residents of all ages. Watson was a sports information director for Florida Tech University in Melbourne, Fla.

Veazie

Veazie Congregational Church will hold a supper of baked beans, casseroles and pies 4:45-6 p.m. Nov. 10 at the church. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children.
