BANGOR – Two Muslim women who have worked in the garment factories of Bangladesh will lend their voices to the Bangor Clean Clothes Campaign’s efforts to do away with sweatshops.

Janu Ahkter and Nasrin Akhter will be participants in “Voices from the Muslim World,” 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Union Street Brick Church, 126 Union St., Bangor.

Hundreds of garment factories in Bangladesh have closed recently, especially in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 tragedies, said Bjorn Skorpen Claeson, director of the Bangor Clean Clothes Campaign.

The women’s visit is part of the National Labor Committee tour. Also participating will be Sk. Razima, president of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity; and Charles Kernaghan, former director of the National Labor Committee and 1999 speaker at the Clean Clothes Fun Fair.
