Neff wins 4th Forecast; Brown is guest champ

High school writer Andrew Neff posted a staff-leading 15-5 record in the 10th and final week of the NEWS Football Forecast and secured his third straight title, fourth overall, with a 154-46 mark.

High school writer Jessica Bloch (13-7 for Week 10) and college writer Larry Mahoney (13-7) both finished with 147-53 records to tie for second behind Neff.

Brian Brown of Millinocket was the top predictor among the guests, compiling a sterling 17-3 mark in Week 5 to edge Mike Archer of Orono, who tallied a 16-4 record in Week 4. Brown, 17, is a senior at Stearns High School in Millinocket and is the statistician for the Minuteman football team.

Assistant sports editor Dave Barber turned in a solid 14-6 week en route to a 144-56 overall record and finished in a deadlock for fourth with assistant sports editor Pete Warner (11-9). John Holyoke (14-6) and Don Perryman (13-7) followed with 142-58 marks while sports editor Joe McLaughlin (11-9) closed out the year at 139-61.

Defending guest champ Ernie Clark of Dover-Foxcroft, Paul Henderson of Ripley and Dewey Martin of Hampden all compiled 15-5 records to tie for third among the guests. They were trailed by Ted Heroux of Belfast (14-6); Mark St. Germain of Bangor (13-7) and Week 10 guest Ron Pelletier of Brewer (13-7); and Shane Foster of Bucksport (12-8) and Dave Robinson of Dexter (12-8). The combined record for the guests was 142-58.
