Cristin Hagelstein of Caribou, a first-year student at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa., has been named a Presidential Scholar at the school. The Presidential Scholarship, established in 1993, is a merit-based award offered to high-achieving students in Franklin & Marshall’s applicant pool. Presidential Scholars receive a $7,500 tuition scholarship, renewable for each of three subsequent years at the college. Hagelstein, a 2001 graduate of Caribou Senior High School, is the daughter of Gail and Christian Hagelstein of Caribou.

A prevention specialist with the Aroostook Mental Health Center, Jack Foster, has been presented the center’s Vickers Excellence Award. Wesley Davidson, the center’s executive director, presented the award to Foster at the agency’s Oct. 23 annual meeting. Foster joined the Presque Isle-based mental health center in 1986 as a prevention specialist. He assumed direct involvement in a number of the center’s prevention initiatives such as Healthy Lifestyles for junior and senior high school students, peer education at the high school level, and Phone-A-Friend for elementary-age children.
