AUGUSTA – With temperatures going down, prices for home heating oil were headed down as well, dropping another two cents this week.
The State Planning Office reported Tuesday that the average price in Maine for a gallon of oil was $1.14, an amount 36 cents less than one year ago.
Citing figures from the federal Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration, the office reported that heating oil stocks in New England were at 8.4 million barrels, a “robust supply” when compared with 3.9 million barrels last year, the report said.
The lowest oil prices still were in southwestern Maine, where prices ranged to as low as 90 cents a gallon. The northern region was the highest with some dealers charging up to $1.24 a gallon.
Kerosene prices also were down two cents to an average of $1.43 a gallon. Propane was unchanged at $1.46.
