Korean cookies recalled for allergy threats

WASHINGTON – A Maryland food importer is recalling a brand of cookies imported from Korea because they contain peanuts and eggs not listed on the label, posing a risk of life-threatening reactions in people allergic to those foods.

Recalled are “Margaret” brand soft cookies, which also may be marked “Lotte Margaret.” They were sold in Asian food stores nationwide, in 8.04-ounce cardboard boxes with the following identification number: 09828K.

The cookies contain peanuts and eggs, although the box does not list those ingredients, said distributor Rhee Bros. Inc. of Columbia, Md.

People who are allergic to peanuts or eggs should not consume the cookies but return them to the place of purchase for a refund. No illnesses have been reported.

The recall includes all of the cookies imported for sale this year, about 2,400 boxes, although the company says most are presumed to have been eaten or expired already.

Consumers with questions may call Rhee Bros. at (410) 381-9000.
