Gobble-gobble

To heck with the bird. This year skip straight to dessert with Wilburs of Maine’s 12-pound solid chocolate turkey. You don’t even need to stuff it! The tasty turkey costs $95 and is available by calling (888) 762-5787 or visit one of Wilburs’ three locations – 13 Bow St. and 32 Independence Drive in Freeport or at the Tontine Mall in Brunswick.

Looking to jazz up your Thanksgiving menu? Call Shady Brook Farm’s Dial-A-Chef hotline for tips from Todd English, Mark Salter and Ris Lacoste. The trio shake things up on the table with such recipes as English’s Glazed Turkey Chop with Cranberry Compote, cooked on the outdoor grill, or Lacoste’s leftover treat, Turkey Hash with Cranberry Orange Bread. For recipes or tips, call (888) SBF-HINTS or visit www.dialachef.com.

Wine and dine

Maine wine lovers now have a new destination. Joan and Michael Anderson have opened the Winterport Winery on Route 1A in Winterport. Visitors can sample one of seven fruit varieties, including the new Raspberry Rain dessert wine, at the tasting room. Even if you don’t like wine, there’s a great selection of Maine-made gifts and food products. The winery is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday or by appointment. If you’d like to try the wine sooner, Winterport Winery will hold a tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. this Thursday at Momma B’s Kitchen at 96 Hammond St. in Bangor. For information, call the Andersons at 223-4500.
