BANGOR – The city of Bangor is holding immunization clinics through January. Officials said recently that they expect a strong flu season this year, and the first case has shown up in Penobscot County.
They expect flu vaccine to be available for the clinics. The schedule is:
. 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Nov. 15, First United Methodist Church, 703 Essex St. Flu shots only.
. 1-2:30 p.m. Nov. 21, Department of Health and Welfare, 103 Texas Ave.
. 8:30-10 a.m. Dec. 6, 103 Texas Ave.
. 5-7 p.m. Dec. 11, 103 Texas Ave.
. 1-2:30 p.m. Dec. 19, 103 Texas Ave.
. 5-7 p.m. Dec. 27, 103 Texas Ave.
. 8:30-10 a.m. Jan. 3, 103, Texas Ave.
. 5-7 p.m. Jan. 8, 103 Texas Ave.
. 1-2:30 p.m. Jan. 16, 103 Texas Ave.
. 5-7 p.m. Jan. 24, 103 Texas Ave.
Officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta advise flu shots for those who:
. Are age 50 or older.
. Reside in long-term care facilities.
. Have heart disease, lung disease, asthma, kidney disease, diabetes or other metabolic disease, anemia or other blood disorders.
. Have a weakened immune system from the human immunodeficiency virus, long-term treatment with drugs such as steroids, or cancer treatment with radiation or drugs.
. Are age 6 months to 18 years and on long-term aspirin treatment.
. Will be past the third month of pregnancy during the flu season.
. Come in close contact with people at serious risk of flu.
