MACHIAS – A fire Wednesday afternoon consumed an unused trailer and barn on the Kennebec Road south of downtown.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. A state fire marshal was expected to visit the scene. Nobody was injured.

Machias fire Chief John Hennessey said the fire in the abandoned barn was reported by neighbor about 1 p.m. The 50-foot-by-30-foot wood barn was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The property belongs to a Massachusetts-based finance company, authorities said, because of a foreclosure several years ago. The trailer and barn apparently had not been used for years.

Departments that responded were Machias, Machiasport, Marshfield, East Machias and Jonesboro.
