BANGOR – St. John’s Catholic Church on York Street will move worship services back upstairs this weekend after a restoration project which began the day after Christmas last year. The restoration of the National Historic Landmark, built in 1856, included repairs to the stained-glass windows, repainting of the religious elements on the vaulted ceiling and work on the altar rail.

25 years ago – Nov. 15, 1976

OLD TOWN – Four couples celebrated their 50th wedding anniversaries here recently. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Boucher of Old Town organized the event, which also was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Onesime Derossier, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sanborn, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Beaulieu.

A five-generation picture was taken in Bangor recently. The youngest member was Donald Albert Perry, 6 weeks old, with his mother, Mrs. Donald Perry of Talmadge; grandmother, Mrs. Norma McManus, Veazie; great-grandmother, Mrs. Daniel Brayson, Glenburn; and great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Susie Staples, Bangor.

50 years ago – Nov. 15, 1951

The third grade at Vine Street School, taught by Mrs. Margery K. Lucas, held an American Education Week play and tea Wednesday afternoon, with about 50 parents and friends as guests. Pouring at the tea were the class vice president, Paula Christakos; and the secretary, Margery Wood. Roger Lothrop played three selections on his accordion.

Dow Air Force Base and its principal occupant, the 132nd Fighter-Bomber Wing, have been transferred to a new command, but no movement is involved, it was announced Wednesday by Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenburg, Air Force Chief of Staff. Under the Strategic Air Command since its reactivation and the 132nd’s arrival here last April, Dow will become a Tactical Air Command on Friday.

100 years ago – Nov. 15, 1901

BANGOR – It is said that no play upon the stage today possesses a higher order of merit, or a charm more peculiarly its own than does the dramatization of Hall Caine’s wonderful story, “The Penitent,” which will be seen in Bangor Opera House on Saturday afternoon and night. Actors include Edgar L. Davenport, Leon Hall, David Hanchett, Myles McCarthy, Maud Claire Shaw, Minnie Bowen and Bessie Marlowe.

BREWER – The Public Works Co. will not build a new car barn at South Brewer this fall, but is making repairs and fitting up the present temporary structure with heating apparatus for the coming winter.
