CRYSTAL – Residents who attended a special town meeting Thursday night voted not to take any action at the present time to fill a vacancy on the town’s Board of Selectmen.

Selectman Harry Shean resigned from his post on the board on Oct. 29. He had been re-elected to the board in March 2000.

With no action taken Thursday to replace Shean, that will leave Selectmen Henry Joy and Richard Moyer to run the town.

Also at the meeting, residents voted to change to a single-assessor system rather than have selectmen do tax assessments in the town.

Town Clerk Melinda Elwell said Friday that she expects that the assessments will be done by a person who will contract with the town to do that work.

About 30 people attended the meeting, according to Elwell.
