VASSALBORO – Forty-eight new police officers, including 11 state troopers, three deputy sheriffs and 31 local officers, joined the ranks of Maine’s law enforcement community on Friday.

The officers graduated from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy as part of the first 18-week law enforcement training program at the new facility. Graduation speaker was Gov. Angus King.

The new academy opened earlier this year following $13 million of renovations to the former Oak Grove-Coburn School. Previously, police were trained at the academy’s former campus in Waterville. Studies included: criminal and traffic law, domestic violence, firearms, sexual assault, first aid, crime scene processing and emergency vehicle operation.
