DOVER-FOXCROFT – Although delivery of influenza vaccine was delayed by manufacturers this year, supplies of the vaccine are now on hand.

Flu shots are available through physician practices in the Penquis region that are affiliated with Mayo Regional Hospital.

Doctors’ offices in Dexter, Dover-Foxcroft, Guilford and Milo are prioritizing vaccinations early in the flu season and giving shots first to people at highest risk of complications from the flu. People in the high-risk group are 65 and older, and those under 65 with chronic illness including heart and lung diseases and diabetes.

People not in the high-risk group may receive their shots anytime through the month of December. Peak activity for the flu season typically comes between January and March, so vaccinations given in December will be effective.

Call any of the following practices to schedule an appointment: Dexter Family Practice at 924-7349, Dexter Internal Medicine at 924-5226, Dover-Foxcroft Family Medicine at 564-3424, Lesley Fernow Medical Associates at 564-7131, George Kousaie Family Practice at 564-7126, Guilford Medical Associates at 876-3547, Milo Family Practice at 943-7752 or Three Rivers Health Center at 943-8848.

Physicians participating in Medicare Part B will charge the federal government, not the Medicare patient, for the shot.
