Folk festival subject of montage by artist

BANGOR – Glenburn artist Ken Brooks has drawn a montage that is the subject of a print for the National Folk Festival.

The limited edition of 250 signed, 11-inch by 17-inch prints will be sold at the Convention and Visitors Bureau to raise funds and publicity for the festival, which will come to Bangor next August for a three-year run.

John Browning, advertising manager for The Weekly, recommended to the festival committee that Brooks do the artwork.

The drawing, titled “Bangor Welcomes the Festival,” includes a band on stage, Irish dancers, a woodcarver, two Indian women and Paul Bunyan.

Brooks said he was “very pleased” that the festival was coming to Bangor.

As a musician, he has participated in several festivals.

Brooks was a guitarist with Bluegrass Supply Company, which performed along the East Coast. Currently, he plays with Union River Band. He also did the artwork for a print of Fort Knox in Bucksport a few years ago.

The cost of the festival prints is $55 plus $2.75 sales tax. Orders may be sent to the Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau, P.O. Box 1838, Bangor 04402-1838.
