Futurama Foundation offers three scholarships

BANGOR – The BPW-Maine Futurama Foundation, established by the Maine Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc., offers three scholarships to be awarded to Maine women through the BPW Futurama Foundation Scholarship Program.

Anne Spencer, co-president of the Bangor Business and Professional Women’s Club, and Julie Antworth, local BPW scholarship chairman, said that completed applications must be received by April 20 to be considered for this application year. Each scholarship will provide $900 for school expenses.

One scholarship, given in memory of the late Rachel E. Lemieux of Augusta, will be awarded to a high school senior or recent graduate who will attend college in the fall. Application forms are available at the guidance office of area high schools, or from the local BPW chairman.

A Career Advancement Scholarship is awarded to a woman 30 years of age or older for an accredited college or training program of study. Application forms may be obtained from the financial aid offices of Maine colleges or from Julie Antworth.

A Continuing Education Scholarship will be awarded to a woman already attending a post-secondary school.

For that program, the applicant must have completed at least one year of an accredited college or training program, and be enrolled for at least one more year of education.

Application forms may be obtained from financial aid offices of Maine colleges or from Julie Antworth at 1453 Union Street, Bangor 04401, 947-4915.
