A woman abandoned by her boyfriend on Route 9 in Brewer early Monday morning showed police signs that she had been involved in an assault.
A truck driver spotted the woman and called police about 1:20 a.m. and the woman was brought to the police station. She told Cpl. Jason Moffitt that she and boyfriend Robert Burgess, 22, of Dedham had fought in the vehicle and that he had bitten her. Moffitt reported finding bite marks on her arms.
The woman said that her boyfriend then kicked her out of the vehicle and drove off.
Deputies from Penobscot and Hancock counties went to Burgess’ home and arrested him on a domestic assault charge.
A motorist told Old Town police that while headed to Old Town from Milford an apparently intoxicated pedestrian in the road opened her car door and attacked her, pulling her hair.
The motorist managed to close her door and drive off, she told police Friday night, shortly after the incident near Center and South Water streets.
Even before the woman called about the assault, Officer Brent Fournier was dealing with the woman after he had been flagged down, according to police.
The police received several calls from people about the safety of Cindy L. Babcock, 35, of Milford, particularly as Babcock made her way along Front Street and Route 2 toward the bridge, Sgt. Travis Roy said Monday. Several of the callers reported that the woman had been lying on the ground.
The motorist who reported the assault described the woman as being very intoxicated, with blond hair, a teal shirt and dark pants. Police brought the motorist back to where Babcock was and the woman identified Babcock as her assailant.
Babcock was summoned on a charge of assault, and a friend was contacted to take her home.
Two things about a gray compact car caught the attention of an Old Town police sergeant early Sunday morning. It was speeding and tried to turn into a cemetery about 2 a.m.
Sgt. Michael Hashey pulled the gray Kia Sephia over after radar indicated it was going 52 mph in a 30 mph zone and also had slowed and appeared to be turning into the Forest Hills Cemetery on South Main Street.
Hashey reported that in talking to the driver, identified as Brandon Arbour, 23, of Augusta and Orono, he noticed the motorist’s eyes were bloodshot and watery. Arbour admitted to having two beers in three hours, but Hashey found indications of inebriation during field sobriety tests he administered.
An Intoxilyzer test registered Arbour’s blood alcohol content at 0.19 percent or more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and was given a verbal warning for speed.
