WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Bangor golfing standout Jesse Speirs won a double major tourney after a playoff in the Plantations Junior Golf Tour’s ages 14-15 division over the weekend at Kingsmill.

Speirs, 15, shot a par 72 Saturday on the Woods Course and followed with a par 71 Sunday on the River Course to finish tied with Joseph Gross of Pennsylvania. Speirs and Gross then entered a chipping contest, which Speirs won.

Both golfers then entered a second chipping contest to determine the tourney medalist as they were both from the same age group and had posted the tourney’s best scores regardless of class. Speirs also won that contest to become the tourney medalist.

The Plantations Junior Golf Tour features competitions at some of the nation’s best and toughest golf courses. The most recent tourney was considered a double major because of the course difficulty as it was held at a PGA Tour course.

Speirs continues on the Plantations Tour this weekend when he will play at a Jack Nicklaus designed course, Harbor Town, in Hilton Head, S.C.
