BANGOR – More than 60 entries were judged in the annual Bangor Rotary Festival of Lights Parade Dec. 1. The theme this year was “Peace on Earth.”

The judges were Gary Crosby of Adelphia, Bangor Mayor Michael Crowley and Bangor Rotary Club President Lin Lufkin. Each judge ranked the parade entries based on the degree of creativity in design and lighting, enthusiasm of characters and people with the unit, the unit’s treatment of the theme, overall presentation and crowd response.

The panel selected the following entries as this year’s trophy winners: 2001 Theme Award: Irving Oil; Adult Category: Bangor Public Library; Commercial Entry: Bangor Hydro; Marching Band: Madawaska Middle High School Band; Non-profit: Eastern Maine Technical College; Youth Group: Cub Scout Pack 25, Hermon.

Plans are already under way for next year’s event. Area businesses, marching bands, nonprofit groups, religious organizations and schools that would like information and an application to enter a float or other unit in the 2002 Festival of Lights Parade should write Bangor Rotary Club, Festival of Lights Parade, PO Box 2787, Bangor 04402-2787.
