Martin powers Ashland past Easton in opener Strong first quarter sparks Owls

EASTON – Amanda Martin poured in 24 points to lead the Ashland Hornets past the Easton Bears 49-33 in their schoolgirl basketball opener Friday night.

Ashlee Peters added 10 points for the winners.

For Easton, Chelsea Carbone netted 11 points and Nina Alexander tossed in 10.

Tyler Pelkey scored the other goal for 1-0 Stearns of Millinocket with an assist from brother Devin Pelkey. Goalie Nick Simon made 38 saves on 41 shots.

Jared Sylvia tallied twice for Houlton-Hodgdon (0-1), and David Carmichael picked up the other. Chris Bither and Ben Carton had assists. Brandon Carmichael stopped 16 of the 21 shots he faced.

At Sherman Station, brothers Thomas Rodgerson and Doug Rodgerson each tossed in 14 points to lead the Cougars to the win.
