Military academy nominees named

BANGOR – U.S. Rep. John Baldacci has nominated 25 young people from Maine’s 2nd Congressional District for admission to U.S. service academies. Nominating material for these students will be forwarded to officials at the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Officials at the academies will evaluate the nominees’ qualifications early next year and make the final selections.

“These 25 Maine students have worked hard to achieve success in the classroom, in extracurricular activities and in their communities. Each would represent themselves, as well as their families and the state of Maine, with distinction at one of the U.S. service academies,” Baldacci said in announcing the nominees Monday.
