Missed big time

Nowhere in your report on town government in Steuben (BDN, Nov. 39) do I see reference to either the selectmen or the Maine Municipal Association (MMA) providing support to the people of Steuben to achieve their goal in changing the existing form of government to include a town manager. Is this because the reverse is actually happening?

Why is MMA encouraging the selectmen to “stand the ground” when the selectmen have clearly been told by the town to hire a town manager? Perhaps the selectmen will continue to disagree with the citizens of Steuben and conjure up delaying tactics, but that is a Steuben problem, not an MMA issue. Shouldn’t this report have included some dialogue focusing upon why a shift to a town manager will assist the town, rather than implying that the town is “maneuvering” to change its form of government? You have mislead the readers of your paper and missed the point here – big time.
