Cyr, Drew lift Vikings to win

CARIBOU – Jessica Cyr scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the first half to power the Caribou High girls basketball team to a 55-41 victory over Bucksport Saturday in a season-opener for both teams.

Cyr hit four three-pointers to account for over half of her points. Leah Drew contributed 17 points, including nine in the first half.

Elissa Gordon’s 15 points and Jessie Carter’s eight led Bucksport.

Darrin Constant netted a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth to help the Tigers break open a game that had been tied at 45 after three periods.

Constant finished with 15 points, Jason Bones tallied 14, and Ben Toney chipped in with 10.

At Caribou, Jason Harvey poured in 33 points and the Golden Bucks rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit to top the Vikings.

Harvey and Kyle Mercer nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to start the overtime period. A hoop by Bucksport’s Corey Guilford with 30 seconds remaining in regulation sent the game into overtime. Mercer finished with 17 points and Guilford had 16.

Joel Griffeth paced the Vikings with 20 points and Jon Chasse chipped in with 18. Griffin St. Peter scored 12 on four 3-pointers, and Tyler Giles netted 11.
