Roller, UNE top Beavers

BIDDEFORD – The University of New England utilized an aggressive full-court press to force 22 turnovers en route to a 71-57 women’s basketball win over the University of Maine at Farmington on Monday.

Melissa Roller scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Nor’easters while Abby Calkins added 15 points. Amanda Rodgerson pitched in with 13 and Missy Stults scored 12.

Amanda Pepin scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half for the Beavers. Kate LaHaye added 15.

Saint Joseph’s 87, Plymouth 76

At Plymouth, N.H., Stacy Gelinas scored a game-high 25 points on 11-for-15 shooting to propel the Monks past the Panthers.

Sue Picard tossed in 21 points, Abbie Rice netted 17 and Laura Pelkey added 12 for Saint Joseph’s of Standish, which shot 56 percent from the field.

Courtney Albert and Jenn Pelletier paced Plymouth State with 19 and 18 points, respectively.

Men’s basketball

St. Joseph’s (Pa.) 85, Drexel 64

PHILADELPHIA – Na’im Crenshaw scored 18 points and Bill Phillips added 17 as No. 16 Saint Joseph’s took an early lead and coasted to an 85-64 victory over Drexel on Monday night.

Marvin O’Connor scored 12 points for the Hawks (6-1), while reserve guard Delonte West added eight points and 11 rebounds.

Tim Whitworth had 15 points for Drexel (2-6). Eric Schmieder and Phil Goss added 10 points each for the Dragons, who couldn’t overcome an abysmal first half.

Saint Joseph’s used its size advantage to block 10 shots and was constantly in the faces of Drexel shooters.
