Doyon sparks PVHS Howlers notch second victory

HOWLAND – Morgan Doyon went 14 for 16 from the line and scored 21 points to help lead the Penobscot Valley Howlers to a 58-36 schoolboy basketball win over the Searsport Vikings Tuesday night.

Matt Mulligan scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds for the Howlers.

Josh McFarlin led Searsport with 15 points.

At Rockland, Todd Curtis inbounded the ball with a halfcourt pass to Jake LaBree, who then found Casey Kenniston underneath the basket with 1.5 seconds left and Kenniston scored the last of his 22 points at the buzzer to give Rockland the win.

Casey Brown had 20 points for the Tigers, who held a nine-point lead with a minute left before Erskine hit three straight 3-pointers to tie it up.

Dan White chipped in with 17 as the Ponies notched the first varsity win for any of the players on the current roster. The Ponies went 7-for-11 from the line to salt away the victory.

At Mount Desert, a 12-4 third- quarter run fueled by four 3-pointers helped the Mount Desert Island Trojans come back from a 26-19 deficit and go on to victory.

The Trojans began the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run to take control and then shot 6-for-6 from the foul line to keep their lead. Blay Carr led the way with 18 points, Brandon Colbleth had 16, and Kyle Jones added 10.

For the Eagles, Jake King led with 15 points, all of which came in the first half.

At Millar Arena in Houlton, Zach Means scored two goals and assisted on the third to pace the Crusaders from Bangor.

John Motta added a goal and an assist for 1-1 Bapst, Brandon Cassette had a goal, Colby Terrault had two assists, and Kyle Maynard one. Dan Leighton made 26 saves in net on 27 shots.

Dave Carmichael tallied for the 0-2 Black Hawks with an assist from Ben Carton. Ryan Blanchette made 12 saves on 15 shots.

Winslow 2, Bangor 1

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, the Black Raiders scored two first period goals and then held on to beat the Rams at Sawyer Arena.

Jason Carter and Scott Grenier recorded the Winslow goals while Doug Dorval and Evan Smith picked up assists. Tim Cloutier made 35 saves on 36 shots for the 2-0 Black Raiders.

Josh Lander scored a goal in the third period off a Jimmy Brown assist and Dominic Dinardo stopped 29 of 31 shots for 0-2 Bangor.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Katie Ahearn and Jenny Rollins led the Red Devils of Corinth with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Leigh Cartwright topped the Ponies with seven points, and Megan Dow pulled down 13 rebounds.
