ORONO – Wes Jordan will be the guest of honor when the fund-raising campaign kickoff for the Wes Jordan Athletic Training Education Complex is held at the University of Maine’s Lengyel Gym Friday 2-4 p.m. The state-of-the-art training facility, with a price tag of $1.25 million, will be built in existing space in Lengyel Gym.
The popular and nationally renowned Jordan was a trainer at the University of Maine for 32 years and has been inducted into three Halls of Fame, including the National Athletic Trainers Association’s hall. He was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
ESPN and NBC sportscaster Gary Thorne, a University of Maine graduate, will be the master of ceremonies. Mark Letendre, who was named the first Major League Baseball director of umpires’ medical services two years ago, will address the gathering as will Dr. Robert Cobb, the dean of the university’s College of Education and Human Development.
Letendre and Owen Logue, the assistant dean of academic services, are the co-chairmen heading up the fund-raising effort.
