Cincinnati 75, Xavier 55
At Cincinnati, Xavier’s David West sprained his ankle, leaving Xavier without its best player, and Steve Logan scored 22 points as Cincinnati pulled away to a 75-55 victory Friday night.
The crosstown rivalry revolved around West, the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, and Logan, who won the honor in Conference USA. In the second half, West hobbled while Logan led Cincinnati to a long-awaited win.
The Bearcats had lost four of their last five against Xavier, including a pair of games when Cincinnati was ranked No. 1 in the nation. It was the first time in 10 years that neither team was ranked for their game.
Cincinnati (7-1) got the better of the matchup in the first half, when tight man-to-man defenses clamped down on West and Logan, leaving it up to their teammates to produce. Once West went down, Xavier (5-3) unraveled.
