Santa fund nears goal of $50,000

Our weekend mail carried with it more than $5,000 in donations to the Santa’s Helper Fund, bringing our total to date to $37,262.79. With Christmas just around the corner, this will go a long way toward providing a happy holiday for many needy people in our communities. With this kind of generosity, we’re optimistic about reaching our goal of $50,000 by Dec. 31.

As well as cash contributions, we also received a box of 35 pairs of beautifully hand-knit mittens from Roberta Worster Murray of Springfield.

Correction: An item in Tuesday’s Santa’s Helper Fund column in the Maine Day section incorrectly identified a contributor. The correct contributor is Star In East Chapter 17, Order of the Eastern Star, Hampden, which donated $100.
