CASCO – The man who was behind the wheel when a car crashed into a tree early on the morning of Nov. 10, killing all five occupants, was legally drunk, state troopers said Thursday.
Tests revealed that the blood alcohol level for driver Aaron Harmon was 0.17 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit 0.08 percent for driving in Maine, said State Trooper Mark Miller.
Witnesses told investigators that the group had been drinking the evening before the 1994 Volkswagen Golf went off the road, skidded 200 feet and slammed into the tree.
An accident reconstruction showed that the car was traveling at least 90 mph.
