BELFAST – Belfast outscored Rockland 22-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 75-69 boys basketball victory Thursday night. Six Lions scored during the quarter, led by Ben Cowan with eight points and Jesse Robbins with six.
Senior forward Cowan finished with 26 points, including six 3-pointers. Chris Duval contributed 14 and Colby Horne garnered 13.
Casey Kenniston recorded 28 points and Justin Widdecombe logged 12 for the Tigers.

At Vinalhaven, Ben Roberts and Rory Diffin each scored eight points as Islesboro outscored Vinalhaven 27-12 in the second quarter en route to the victory.
Diffin finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and Roberts had 14 points and eight steals. Morgan Kerr chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Josh Doughty paced Vinalhaven with 16 points and Josh Miller netted 10.

At Sawyer Arena in Bangor, Zach Means fired in an unassisted goal with 37 seconds remaining in overtime to lift John Bapst to the win.
Presque Isle’s Darren Carlisle sent the game into overtime when he scored with 7:53 to go in the third period.
Means finished with two goals and an assist while Taylor Lynn added a goal and an assist. John Motta and Colby Theriault had a goal each and Kyle Maynard tallied two assists. Goalie Dan Leighton made 33 saves on 37 shots and was also credited with an assist.
Carlisle netted all four goals for the Wildcats. Bill Elliott chipped in with two assists and Clos Lawten recorded an assist. Travis Shaw stopped 25 of the 30 shots he faced.
Girls basketball
Ellsworth 40, George Stevens 38
At Blue Hill, May Chan and Jody Merchant each scored 11 points as Ellsworth won the Battle of the Eagles.
Chan nailed a three-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer for Ellsworth, but after that, only scored 15 the rest of the game. They held off a stingy George Stevens squad, which managed a 13-5 fourth-quarter spurt, but fell just shy.
Michala Bunten was the Eagles’ leading scorer with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sara Clapp put in 10.
