HAMPDEN – Hampden’s McGraw School has ordered a dozen new Apple iMac computers, thanks to the combined fund-raising efforts of Modern Woodmen of America and the McGraw School Parent Teachers Organization.

On Dec. 13, Dale Tudor from Modern Woodmen of America and Tiffany Dickinson, president of the McGraw School PTO, presented Principal Sally Leclair a check for $9,471.32 to pay for the new computers. With the purchase of one additional computer by the school, there are enough up-to-date computers for each classroom to have one.

This past fall, the McGraw School PTO, Modern Woodmen of America and the Hampden Public Safety Department combined forces to hold the first Kids Come First Fall Festival and Public Safety Day on Oct. 13.

Parent volunteers, teachers, firefighters, police officers, rescue personnel and Modern Woodmen of America members offered free fun, games and safety education activities.

Through food sales and donations, a total of $6,971.32 was raised.

Modern Woodmen of America added a $2,500 donation.

In addition to Dickinson and Tudor, other leaders of the effort to put on the fall festival and public safety day included PTO members Sharon Jordan and Lisa Springer, Hampden Firefighter Shellie Arbuckle and teacher Mary Ann Johnson.

Modern Woodmen of America is a nonprofit fraternal life insurance society, founded in 1883. With more than 15,000 members in Maine, Tudor said, the society has as its mission to help members become financially secure, enjoy a more positive family life, and have opportunities for community service.

The local Modern Woodmen of America office is located in Chapel Hill Complex, 1460 Outer Hammond St., Bangor. For information, contact Dale Tudor at 992-2210 or 989-1214.
