BANGOR – Penobscot Theatre Company/Maine Shakespeare Festival invites high school juniors and seniors to join its High School Intern Program, an integral part of the production and administrative fabric of the theater.

Interns work with theater professionals in hands-on projects involving scenery, lighting, costumes, stage crew and administration.

Former intern Kate Kenney, now a bachelor’s candidate in fine arts at Rutgers University, has experienced the benefits of her internship during a scenic arts course.

“Just about everything we’ve covered are things I already knew from interning with PTC/MSF,” Kenney said. “I am so prepared for class, there are days I think I could teach the course.”

Bangor High School senior Sarah Bigney will complete her yearlong internship at the end of the current semester and is looking ahead to college and a career in photo-journalism.

She commented, “It’s great to be involved with so many different aspects of theater, and to meet the people who come to Bangor to pursue their theater careers. I have learned about theater, but I have also learned about life.”

To participate, students must be high school juniors or seniors with a C average or better, have parent or guardian consent, and demonstrate a flexible, team-spirited nature.
