The gun-banning crowd is still at it, trying to take away our freedoms (“Weak laws let terrorists buy guns in U.S., report says,” BDN, Dec. 20).
The latest verse in their mournful song called “Ban the Guns” is that since the Sept. 11 events were committed with box cutters, guns should be banned. This is a follow-up on the verse that said that since the Oklahoma City bombing was caused by fertilizer and oil, guns should be banned. I have no doubt that if the White House were demolished by a tornado, the gun-banners would call that another reason guns should be banned. And probably some of them blame guns for global warming.
If the gun-banners thought about it briefly, they might realize that the Sept. 11 attacks were carried out in a venue where guns have already been banned, which is one reason the victims were vulnerable. Since guns were banned on airlines years ago, the terrorists knew no one could defend themselves with a gun, which probably contributed to the choice of airlines as targets.
It is reported that guns are used in self-defense more than a million times a year in this country alone. If someone had been armed on the airplanes on Sept 11, our disasters might have been prevented.
