Police investigate theft at store in Rockland

ROCKLAND – Two men robbed the Big Apple convenience store Thursday night, making off with approximately $300 in cash.

“We do have several leads that we’re following up on,” police Deputy Chief Wallace Tower said Friday. The case is being investigated by the department’s detective division, he said.

At 8:45 p.m. Thursday, two males walked into the Camden Street store with their faces hidden by hooded sweat shirts and approached the clerk. The men told the clerk that they had a gun, although they never displayed a weapon, Tower said.

After emptying the cash register, they ran out of the store with about $300.

When Rockland police arrived, they called in a Maine State Police trooper with a tracking dog. The dog followed the men’s trail across the nearby Pizza Hut parking lot to another unspecified parking area, where the duo apparently got into a vehicle and fled.

The only description of the pair was that one man was “over 6 feet tall” and the other robber was “shorter and fatter,” Tower said.
