Three vehicles damaged in four-car accident

ELLSWORTH – A 9-year-old passenger suffered a bitten tongue Friday morning in a four-car accident in Ellsworth but otherwise no one was hurt, according to police.

Casey Bickford, whose gender Ellsworth police officers did not know Friday afternoon, was riding in the car of Carrie Bickford, 29, of Bar Harbor when the elder Bickford rear-ended a 2001 GMC truck while driving north on Route 3, Officer Gil Jameson of Ellsworth police said Friday.

Bickford had been looking in a mirror of her 1998 Ford van and did not notice traffic had stopped in front of her, Jameson said.

After being hit by the van, the GMC truck, driven by Norris Reddish, 64, of Mount Desert, rear-ended a 1992 Geo driven by Shawn Kilton, 26, of Cherryfield, according to Jameson. The Geo then rear-ended a 1999 Ford driven by Roberta Hanscom, 56, of Lamoine, he said.

Bickford’s van had an estimated $3,500 in damage, the GMC truck $2,500 and the Geo $3,000, while Hanscom’s Ford was undamaged, Jameson said.

Chase Bickford was not taken to the hospital for medical treatment, according to Jameson. There were no charges filed in the accident.

It is unknown whether all passengers were wearing seat belts.
