Gunman in ski mask robs Trenton restaurant

TRENTON – A man wearing a ski mask and wielding a gun robbed a Route 3 restaurant Sunday evening, fleeing in a pickup truck.

The man apparently hid in the restaurant section of Betsy’s Kitchen, a combination eatery and convenience store, until just after closing time at 7 p.m. Then he approached the clerk, pointing a gun at her and demanding money. The woman gave him several hundred dollars and he left.

Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety, said the man might have had an accomplice.

The man also was wearing a dark bomber-style jacket with a dark collar.

Authorities were focusing on a white Ford pickup. It had yellow license plates and was seen heading south toward Mount Desert Island.

Only four states, Alaska, New Mexico, New Jersey and Oregon, have yellow plates, said McCausland.

McCausland said that the clerk was slightly injured when the gunman pushed her, although her injury didn’t require immediate medical attention.

Anyone with information may contact the state police barracks in Orono at (800) 432-7381.
