No. 14 Arizona 74, Valparaiso 70
TUCSON, Ariz. – In a lineup loaded with freshmen, Arizona juniors Jason Gardner and Rick Anderson stood tall against Valparaiso.
Gardner brought the Wildcats from behind with a late four-point play and Anderson was tough inside as Arizona avoided an upset by beating Valparaiso to win the Bank One Fiesta Bowl Classic Sunday.
“I knew if I didn’t make it, Coach (Lute) Olson’s voice would reach me from the other side of the court,” Gardner, who had 19 points, six assists and five steals, said referring to the coach’s recent bout with laryngitis.
