ROCKLAND – A Madison man was taken Sunday morning to Penobscot Bay Medical Center for injuries he suffered when he allegedly broke into ERA Cousens real estate office on Main Street.

Jerome Schoppee, 25, was arrested by Rockland police after he was released from the hospital, Sgt. Jeff McLaughlin said Sunday. A nursing supervisor confirmed that Schoppee was treated and then released.

At 12:45 a.m., Officer Joel Neal was patrolling the city when he noticed a man walking through the Green Tea restaurant parking lot next to Camden National Bank. A short time later, the officer heard the sound of glass breaking. Before he could investigate, Neal was called to a fight in progress on Main Street.

After the fight broke up, Neal spotted the same person who had been in the Green Tea parking lot, walking down Main Street.

Neal went to the real estate office and saw that a back window had been broken out and there was blood on the window and inside the building.

He picked up Schoppee, who had an injury that was bleeding, McLaughlin said. No items were taken from the Main Street business, he said.
