Driver charged with OUI in fatal crash

LYMAN – A habitual offender was responsible for an accident that killed an Alfred man on Monday, authorities said.

John Gerry, 69, was killed when his car was struck head-on by a pickup truck driven by Christopher Lyons, 34, of Biddeford.

Lyons was charged with operating under the influence of intoxicants, operating while being declared a habitual offender, vehicular manslaughter and having outstanding warrants.

The York County Sheriff’s Department said the accident happened around 4:45 p.m. on Route 111 in Lyman when Lyons pulled into the left lane to pass another vehicle and hit Gerry’s car, which was traveling in the opposite direction.

Gerry died at the scene.

Lyons was taken to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford with a broken leg and internal injuries. He was listed in good condition Monday night.
