BANGOR – Five Maine Salvation Army Corps units received a total of $2,162 thanks to a special promotion coordinated by Northern Mattress and Furniture Galleries.

The money was used primarily for holiday programs.

“This donation provided a boost at our busiest time of the year,” said Salvation Army divisional development director Tom Fodor.

“We sent it right back into the community.”

Company owner Peter S. Redman said Northern Mattress and Furniture partnered with The Salvation Army because of the charity’s reputation for compassionate community services.

Redman presented the check to Capt. Sharon Hartford of The Salvation Army.

The furniture company collected donations during special weekend sales throughout October and November at its five locations statewide – Stillwater Avenue, Bangor; Center Street, Auburn; Maine Street, Brunswick; Main Street, Fairfield; and Western Avenue, South Portland.

Northern Mattress and Furniture contributed $2 for every $1 donated by the public.
