Barbara Hagar, former director of Portland’s Downtown District, has been named winner of the Governor’s Award for Tourism Excellence for 2002.
Hagar will receive a Winter Wonderland Vase, number 2348 of 4500, created and signed by artisan John Whelan of Waterford Crystal.
Hagar and the winners of other Maine Tourism Awards for the year will be honored at a ceremony in Portland on Jan. 15.
Other winners announced by the Maine Tourism Association in cooperation with the state Office of Tourism and the Governor’s Tourism Commission are:
. Accommodations – Althea Moran, Inn by the Sea, Cape Elizabeth;
. Food Service – Mary Jane Dillingham, Sarah’s Cafe and Mercantile, Wiscasset;
. Transportation – Wane Davis, Trainriders/Northeast, Portland;
. Attractions – Roy Andrews, Fryeburg Fair, Fryeburg;
. Arts/Heritage and Cultural Community – Chris Shrum, National Folk Festival;
. Retail – Rachel Desgrosseilliers, Gooseberry Barn, Auburn;
. Recreation Supplier – Jerry Smith, Jackman-Moose River Region Chamber of Commerce;
. Public Service – Karen Arel, Kennebunk-Kennebunkport Chamber of Commerce.
Each individual will be honored with a Waterford Crystal biscuit barrel.
