Schenck nips PVHS, keeps record perfect

HOWLAND – Seth Johnson scored nine of his 13 points in the fourth quarter as undefeated Schenck of East Millinocket earned a 61-59 win over Penobscot Valley Thursday night.

Ryan Deschenes paced the Wolverines with 23 points. Brian Graham chipped in with 11.

Matt Mulligan poured in 29 points to lead Penobscot Valley. Brad Harris added 14 and Morgan Doyon contributed 12.

At Ellsworth, junior guard Zak Ray scored 10 of his 23 points in the third quarter as Bangor erased a three-point halftime deficit by outscoring Ellsworth 28-10.

Rob Flynn had 11 points for the winners, Aaron Gallant contributed 10 and Buddy Nickerson scored nine.

Jake King had a game-high 25 points for Ellsworth and he also grabbed 15 rebounds. Scott Bradford had seven points.

At Old Town, Shawn Kenniston scored seven of his game-high 23 points in the second quarter as Old Town extended a four-point first-quarter lead into a 34-22 halftime margin en route to its first win.

Brian Tewhey collected 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals and Ryan Brown contributed 11 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Kevin Emerson added nine points.

Justin Perron’s 13 points and Nick Heitmann’s 12 led Orono.

At Corinth, Ian Johnson and Derek DiFrederico scored six points apiece in the fourth quarter to lift Stearns of Millinocket over Central.

The Minutemen went 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in the final period to seal the win.

Johnson and Matt Leino led Stearns with 13 apiece. Kevin McLaughlin chipped in with 12 more.

For the Red Devils, Joey Kane tossed in 16 points and Mike Rollins netted 13. James Gray and Jason Allen rounded out the double figure scoring with 12 and 10, respectively.

At Bangor’s Sawyer Arena, senior defenseman Ian Ferguson had a hat trick and an assist and senior right winger Mike Merritt added two goals and an assist as Orono improved to 6-0.

Nick Dwyer, Will Toner, Griff Lambert and Branislav Srnka had the other goals with Srnka, Pat Skall, Mark Caggiano and goalie Anthony Hegstrom notching assists. Hegstrom made 16 saves.

Corey Beaulieu had both goals for 1-4 Foxcroft with Josh Sands, Derek Smith, Ryan McNulty and Andy Robinson getting assists. Dan Perkins made 23 saves.
