Bucks stop Ponies Guilford, Harvey spark 8th victory

DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Bucksport Golden Bucks used fourth-quarter pressure defense and timely free-throw shooting to beat the Foxcroft Academy Ponies 49-39 in schoolboy basketball action Friday night.

Corey Guilford led Bucksport’s charge with 12 points, while Jason Harvey scored 11. Chris Atherton-Dow and Kyle Mercer had 10 each.

Danny White led Foxcroft with 12 points, while E.J. Imbert scored 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

At Corinth, a pair of free throws by Katie Ahearn with less than 10 seconds remaining sealed the game for Central.

The Penobscot Valley defense held the Red Devils to only one field goal in the fourth quarter. It was by Danielle Collins, who led Central with eight points.

Jenny Rollins also scored eight points in the win.

The Howlers of Howland were led by Megan Cyr with 16 points. Alicia Drost and Kylie McGinn added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for PVHS.
