An incident of shoplifting at the Wal-Mart store in Bangor turned violent Friday afternoon, sending one store employee to the hospital, while police arrested a Portland man.

Christopher Seavey, 19, was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, criminal mischief and refusing to submit to arrest after the incident shortly after 2 p.m. He is expected to appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Monday.

The incident was still under investigation Friday night and few details were being released, but Detective Sgt. Mark Hathaway acknowledged that Seavey had struggled with a store employee and then police. Hathaway reported that the Bangor Fire Department took the Wal-Mart employee to a local hospital, but he didn’t know the extent of the injuries.

No weapon was displayed during the incident.
